Croatia residence permits are granted to foreign nationals with income from abroad of at least €3,295 per month. Eligible applicants include employees of foreign companies, self-employed professionals, freelancers, and sole proprietors.

The residence permit does not grant the right to work in Croatia but allows the holder to run a business in the country.

Family members obtain residence permits through the family reunification procedure. A spouse and children under 18 may apply for residence permits after the main applicant has received approval.

The residence permit is issued for 12 or 18 months. After maintaining the status for 18 months, a digital nomad may reapply only after a 6-month break. During this period, the applicant must leave Croatia.

How to obtain residence permit in Croatia: step-by-step process

1.

Preliminary Due Diligence

A compliance specialist at Passportivity verifies whether the applicant meets the requirements for obtaining a residence permit. This check reduces the risk of refusal to as low as 1%.

2.

Collecting and preparing documents

The applicant provides Passportivity’s lawyers with scanned copies of documents based on an individual checklist. The documents are translated into Croatian, notarised, and apostilled.

At this stage, the applicant rents a property in Croatia or books accommodation in order to obtain a temporary address.

3.

Submitting and reviewing the application

Passportivity’s lawyers assist with submitting the application via the official website of the Croatian Ministry of the Interior. Before approval, the digital nomad receives a notification and pays the government fee.

4.

Obtaining an entry visa to Croatia

To enter the country, the digital nomad obtains a Schengen or national visa at a Croatian consulate.

The process takes about 1.5 months. The approved visa is affixed to the passport.

5.

Purchasing or renting property

The applicant purchases or rents accommodation where they will reside for the entire validity period of the residence permit.

6.

Arrival in Croatia and biometric submission

The digital nomad travels to Croatia, registers their place of residence, and obtains a tax identification number. All applicants aged over six must submit biometric data.

7.

Receiving the residence permit card 🔥

The residence permit card is issued within approximately four weeks. The plastic residence card must be collected in person.

Croatia Digital Nomad Visa renewal

A residence permit is issued for 12 or 18 months. If the permit is valid for 12 months, it may be extended for an additional six months without leaving Croatia.

After maintaining the status for 18 months, a digital nomad must leave Croatia. A new residence permit may be obtained only after a six-month break. In this case, the applicant must collect a new set of documents and submit a fresh application at a consulate.

The residence permit may be revoked if a digital nomad leaves Croatia for more than 30 consecutive days or for more than 90 days within a 6-month period.

A digital nomad residence permit does not provide a pathway to permanent residence or Croatian citizenship.
